Wrapping & Labeling Outbound Pallets

Process Overview: One of the final stages of shipping out an order is wrapping and labeling the outbound pallets. This is done to ensure the full shipment arrives at the customer without damage and can easily be identified upon arrival. The process below should be followed when wrapping and labeling outbound pallets.

Step 1: Once the paperwork is ready, bin flags have been resolved and the pallet is ready to ship, a forklift should be used to take the pallet to the stretch wrapping machine for final wrapping.

Step 2: Using the forklift, set the pallet in the middle of the circular turntable. After the pallet has been set, put a pallet top sheet on top of the pallet. Next, put enough stretch wrap between two corner cartons of the pallet so that it stays in place once the pallet starts to spin.

Step 3: After the stretch wrap has been put into place, press the green Start button located on the control panel to start the stretch wrapping process.

  • *Note– There isn’t anything that needs to be done until the machine stops. The stretch wrapping machine is equipped with a sensor that will help guide the film roll carriage from the bottom of the pallet, up to the top of the pallet and back to the bottom again.

Step 4: Once the turntable stops and the stretch wrap loosens, cut the stretch wrap, and wrap the rest of it around the pallet. The stretch wrap, including the end, must be affixed to the pallet to minimize the chance of it becoming loose and the pallet moving in transit.

Step 5: Using the forklift, move the pallet to the appropriate staging area to start the pallet labeling/tagging process. This should include the documents and labels that were printed out during the Pallet Locking process and any other customer-specific labels/documents. For customers without specific guidelines, pallets should be labeled according to the below:

  • 2 Pallet LP’s- Bottom right-hand corner of the front and adjacent side to the right.
  • 1 Pallet Placard- Front, middle of the pallet under the stretch wrap.
  • 1 Packing List- Top right or top left of the pallet.

After the pallet has been wrapped and tagged, it is ready to be shipped.

This completes the pallet wrapping and labeling process.
