Standard UPC label requirements

Product Development:

  • UPC labels must be quoted at a minimum of 2.25”w x 2.5”h (5.715cm x 6.35cm) to accommodate the standard UPC barcode size of 1.5”w x  1.03”h along with the necessary Declaration of Responsibility, Item #, Item Description, Country of Origin, Legal Statements and etc. to be compliant with general NIST regulations.
  • If the product has an additional packaging label that will contain all NIST compliancy statements, then a smaller label can be quoted. This size should be no smaller than 1.75”w x 1.25”h.

*Exception: These designated UPC sizes may not be possible due to the size of the product. In this case, Marketing and Sales must be notified to get approval from the account if necessary.

Marketing/Graphics:

  • UPC labels MUST be built to specs below.
  • Legal Statements (if needed) should fall under the barcode and can be as small as 5pt.
