When quoting freight costs to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, we must obtain a quote through BOTH USPS and FedEx and choose whichever rate is least expensive. (FedEx standard rate given on screen or USPS marked up rate)
USPS
- Go to: https://www.usps.com
- On the left side, click the Quick Tools dropdown menu and then click Calculate a Price.
- Destination: If AK/HI, leave as United States. If PR, choose Puerto Rico from dropdown menu.
- Enter To/From Zip Codes.
- Select a Shape based on dims of package. Click Continue after this step.
- Next, enter dimensions of package. (Must have) Click Continue
- Under Other Options– Use the Standard Post Price. (Not Online Price)
- For COP/CH- Multiply by 25% for charge to quote.
- For FL- Multiply by 50% for charge to quote.
- If shipment is a multi-piece shipment- Repeat steps above for each piece, add total for each piece together and then multiply by necessary percentage above.
FedEx
- Go to: http://www.fedex.com/us (Do Not Log In)
- On the left side under Quick Access, click Get Rates and Transit Times.
- Enter To/From Zip Codes.
– If “To” Zip Code is in PR, change Country/Location to Puerto Rico.
- Under Additional Information, enter the # of packages.
– You will need the weight and dimensions for each package being shipped.
– Pickup/Dropoff- Use an already scheduled pickup. Click Get detailed quote.
- Under Package and Shipment Details, enter the Qty, Weight, Package Type (Your Packaging) and Dimensions for each package. Click Continue once finished.
- Use the cheapest rate to quote to the customer.
– You will not need to mark these shipments up. Use the price given by FedEx.
