Quarterly Assembly Items with Product Lifecycle Status Mismatches Check

The link below will display items whose component status does not match the assembly item’s (parent item) status. The specialist can filter the link below.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

If an item is no longer being produced, but its components are active, it can confuse Supply Chain and potentially cause excess inventory of unused items.

Regularly using this search will help you become more familiar with your raw materials and sub-assemblies.

There are three likely scenarios for why your items appear on the search.

Scenario 1:  The parent item is Obsolete but has non-obsolete components.

  • BFLM226LJS-FG is Obsolete, but it has non-Obsolete components.
  • FLMESH04PLUS is a member of several other items that are still active, so it is appropriate that FLMESH04PLUS is active.
  • No action is needed.

Scenario 2:  The Parent item’s status would trigger replenishments (active, under review, etc.), but the component’s status would not trigger replenishment (obsolete, closeout, etc).

  • Parent item 2BH is active, but three BOM components are Obsolete.
  • The B2BH bulk baggage hooks are the critical components to make the 2BH.
  • It doesn’t make sense the 2BH should be active anymore.
  • Action – email the divisional business manager or director to suggest changing the parent product status to XXXXX.
    • Note – suggest a new code and explain why
      • Ex: I would suggest changing the status of 2BH to Closeout due to obsolete raw material components, low sales, and the inventory has already been written off.

Scenario 3:  The Parent item status would not trigger replenishments, but a component’s status would.

  • Parent item 2035 is liquidated, but FG is active and only used in liquidate or non-stock items.
  • FG is only used in liquidate, non-stock, or obsolete items.
  • Action – email the divisional business manager or director to suggest changing the component product status to XXXXX.
    • Note – suggest a new code and explain why
      • Ex: I would suggest changing the status of FG to Discontinued. We have plenty of inventory on hand used in 3 non-stock items with inconsistent order history. SCM will continue to forecast whenever the time comes to reorder, and we can decide whether to change the non-stock items to Obsolete.
