It is very common for our customers to request the tracking information for their shipment(s). For future reference, we can always let customers know that their tracking information can be found on the invoice that is sent out for each shipment. This may help prevent the need to request it in the future. Otherwise, below are two easy ways to find the tracking information for a particular shipment. One can be found on the sales order itself and the other can be found using a separate subtab on the sales order record.
Finding Tracking Numbers on the Sales Order Header
The below method can be used to find the tracking number for A) a single shipment order or B) the tracking numbers for an order that has had multiple shipments against it.
- Navigate to the sales order in which you are trying to obtain tracking information for.
- Under the Status field group on the sales order, the tracking number can be found under the ‘TRACKING NUMBER(S)’ field.
- For an order that is a single shipment, you will find one tracking number; similar to the above. For an order that has had multiple shipments against it, you may see more than 1 tracking number, as can be seen below.
The tracking/pro number(s) will be separated by a comma for orders that have had multiple shipments. The shipping method can be found directly under the tracking numbers in under the Ship Via field. *For orders with multiple shipments against them, the method listed will reflect the most recent shipment method. In the example above, the first order shipped via Old Dominion Freight and the second order shipped via FedEx Ground. In this case, the ship via shows FedEx Ground as this was the carrier used for the most recent shipment.
Finding Tracking Numbers Using the Outbound Shipment (OBS) Record Information
Similar to the first method listed above, this method also allows you to A) locate the tracking number for a single shipment order and B) locate the tracking information for an order that has multiple shipments against it. In addition to finding the aforementioned information, this route will also provide a little detail relating to all shipments made against the sales order.
- Navigate to the sales order.
- Click on the Related Records subtab.
- Click on the Outbound Shipments link.
As can be seen above, this view will provide you with the ship date, shipping method, tracking/pro number and BOL/shipment number for every shipment made against the sales order. In the above example, the first shipment made against SO 8059645 had a ship date of 5/20 and shipped via Old Dominion on pro number 01007031113/BOL number 5063940. The second shipment had a ship date of 7/1 and was sent via FedEx Ground on tracking number 281005445410.
