Process Overview: Maximizing available bin space helps keep the flow of inventory into our facilities as efficient as possible. One way to help create bin space is by consolidating low-volume pallets into preferred bins. This can happen naturally through the replenishment process (Ref: Replenish Preferred Bins process) but when space is needed, can also be done out of necessity. The following process should be used when consolidating inventory into preferred bins.
Step 1: Locate partially filled pallets within the upper/non-preferred bins.
- *Note– Partially filled pallets may have already had inventory taken from them or could have been built low and have a greater chance of being able to fit into an item’s preferred bin.
Step 2: Pull the inventory. Using the Bin Transfer process, locate the item’s preferred bin and transfer the inventory both physically and in NetSuite.
- *Note– Items should only be transferred to the preferred bin if there is room within the bin to accommodate the additional inventory. Inventory should not be put in the aisle in front of the pallet or a bin next to the preferred bin. The areas outlined in red below show examples of where additional inventory was physically placed within a preferred bin.
After the partial pallets have been consolidated into each item’s preferred bin, the empty bins will now be able to accommodate full pallets of inventory being received into the facility.
This completes the process of consolidating low-volume pallets into preferred bins.
