Compensation and Benefits
HR functions include proposing compensation structures and evaluating competitive pay practices. HR also participates in the selection and administration of the company’s benefit offerings, and coordinates activities with the 401k plan. Payroll is another component of the compensation and benefits section of HR at Advantus.
Employee Relations
Employee relations is the HR discipline concerned with strengthening the employer-employee relationship through measuring job satisfaction, employee engagement and resolving workplace conflict. This also includes employee policy administration in order to ensure a safe, organized, nondiscriminatory work place.

Labor and Employment Law Compliance
Compliance with labor and employment laws is a critical HR function. HR must be aware of federal and state employment laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act and many other rules and regulations.
Office Administrator
The Office Administrator operates as administrative support staff for the company. Responsibilities include coordinating various meetings and events, point of contact for maintenance requests, maintaining supplies for multiple locations, and executing employee engagement activities.
Recruiting & Onboarding
HR is responsible for advertising job postings, sourcing candidates, screening applicants, conducting preliminary interviews and coordinating hiring efforts with the managers responsible for making the final selection of candidates.
Training and Development
HR assists in the development and implementation of the tools necessary for employee success. This function includes performance management as well as providing professional development opportunities for employees looking for promotional opportunities or employees who want to achieve personal goals.
Workplace Safety
Supporting and organizing workplace safety training and obeying laws for workplace safety, injury and fatality reporting is an essential function of the HR department, insuring employees are provided with a safe working environment.
