Creating Pallet Builds

Process Overview: This process should be used by Receiving when creating pallet builds and updating the item palletization information on the item record when necessary. This may be driven by an item having a blank item palletization page when receiving an Inbound Shipment or when an update needs to be made to an item’s palletization details.

Step 1: Open the Quick Pallet Maker tool. (Path: P:\Quick Pallet Maker\Quick Pallet Maker.exe)

  • *Note– Under the Tools dropdown, click Settings.  In the Quick Pallet Maker preferences pop-up you receive, ensure that “All units in inches and lbs.” is chosen and the Default Case View is “External box view”.  Click OK.

Step 2: To create a new pallet build, click File > New Data Sheet > Start from Box

Step 3: On the Input Data screen, update the below fields.  Once completed, click the Add Box button.  This will populate a visual depiction of the carton being worked on.

  • *Note– To obtain item dimensions, measure the carton being worked on.
  • Length Ext. = Add carton length
  • Width Ext. = Add carton width
  • Height Ext. = Add carton height
  • Pallet: GPC Pallet 48inx40in
  • Max Load Dims: Add appropriate height depending on WH location and/or need.
  • Normal default pallet height: 12th & SHW = 68”, GCR = 100”, PBG = 73”

Step 4: Once all the necessary information has been added to the Input Data screen and your box has been created, press Ctrl R or click Tools > Recalculate to create your pallet.

Step 5: Choose the pallet with the highest Volume Efficiency percentage. This number should also coincide with the greatest total number of cartons being utilized on each pallet. For cartons that have the Upward Arrows (This Way Up) printed on them, the chosen pallet build must include an orientation that has all cartons facing upward.  For cartons that do not have the arrows printed on them, ideally, they are facing upward as well but minimally, the cartons should be oriented so that the labels/writing/pictures are all facing the same way on the pallet. For builds that require some cartons to be oriented sideways, the labels/writing/pictures on all these cartons should face the same direction.

  • *Note– Save a picture of the chosen pallet as well as the TI(Cases per Layer)/HI(Layers per Pallet) information as this will be added to NetSuite later.
  • *Note– In the event we are in the process of receiving an Inbound Shipment, press Ctrl P to print a screenshot of this information to give to the Receiving team.

Step 6: Navigate to the Item Record by typing Item: followed by the item number in the Global Search and clicking on the appropriate item.  When the item appears in the search results, click on the Edit link on the item line.

Step 7: On the Item Record, click on the Units & Dims subtab.

Step 8: Update the TI/HI information, Pallet Height, and Pallet Carton Count fields. (Reference Step 4 screenshot)

Step 9: Last, upload the picture of the pallet build (Saved in Step 5) in the Palletization Image field.

  • *Note– To Upload:
  • Click the New ( + ) button.
  • On the File Screen:
  • Available Without Login checkbox- Check this box.
  • Folder field- Click the dropdown menu and search Palletizations.  Click the Palletizations folder.
  • Select File- Click the Choose File button.  Upload the pallet build that we previously saved.
  • Once completed, click Save.

Step 10: Back on the Item Record, click Save.  After the record has been saved, confirm the updates and image were saved properly under the Units & Dims subtab.  The Pallet Quantity field will auto-populate.

This completes the systematic pallet build process.
